Off for a hike . South end of Kodiak Island. The salmon run is on and the bears are fishing.

"I joined Captain Josh and Natasha aboard SAMBA for 12 fantastic days departing from Kodiak Island.
On the first day we saw whales, bears, otters and salmon crowding up a river. The subsequent days just kept getting better with hiking and fishing adding  to outstanding natural beauty. (Let’s not forget the eagles and deer.)
Natasha's cuisine throughout was superb.
The actual key to our successful cruise without a doubt was Josh's seamanship, weather judgment and anchorage choices. They were impeccable. All of this   made  a cruise not to be forgotten.
I have previously circumnavigated the world in a sailboat taking 9 years to do so, and I can honestly say from real life experiences that these were some of the best days I have ever spent afloat!"

About Us

We are Josh and Natasha Tofield owners of  2012 Nordhavn 52  SAMBA based in Kodiak, Alaska. In our first Nordhavn 40 and our present SAMBA we have navigated over 35,000 nautical miles from Seattle to beyond Dutch Harbor.

We love Alaska; we love the seaworthiness of Nordhavn, and we particularly love sharing our knowledge of this beautiful country and these sturdy vessels with our guests.

We have cruised for 10 years in Southeast Alaska, Prince William Sound,  the Kodiak Archipelago, the Alaska Peninsula, the Shumagin Islands and the Eastern Aleutian Islands. We believe that
Kodiak and the Alaska Peninsula are where the self reliance and real adventure of Alaska begins. What better place to learn about Nordhavn and prepare for
your own vessel, or just relax and thrill to Alaska than aboard SAMBA in Kodiak,  "Alaska's Emerald Isle."

We welcome  two people per charter and completely focus  on your Nordhavn learning experience and your Kodiak adventure.
Our basic charter is one week long with flexible itineraries and a program of learning the systems aboard a late model Nordhavn  and sharing our experience of outfitting two Nordhavns for advanced cruising.  Other topics such as boat handling and navigation can be enjoyed while wildlife viewing in the spectacular waters of Kodiak.   When the charter ends you will know the systems: electrics and hydraulics, fuel and propulsion, maintenance and navigation. You will have an understanding of the build process and what extras to specify.

If you want to go even further than one week allows,we can travel farther out with a possible seaplane return to Kodiak City, or flights from more distant ports.
